Ankylosing Spondylitis and the Foot

Ankylosing spondylitis is a rheumatological disorder that is not very common and mainly affects the spine with an inflammatory arthritis of the low back joints. It may affect any of the joints in the body, including the foot. Ankylosing spondylitis has an inflammatory process like to rheumatoid arthritis, but the inflammation is usually not as severe. Heel pain is a problem in ankylosing spondylitis and the tarsal joints in the feet are also commonly impacted.
